STUDIO 54 Exeter offers various music based services over three floors in the heart of Exeter’s city centre:
3rd Floor is home to the main Studio 54 recording studio (the Phil Johnstone Suite) featuring a large control room, sound-treated live room and state of the art equipment. Studio 54 is a creative space where you can develop your music, produce, record, mix & master your music to professional standards. You can choose from an impressive music industry collective of in-house music producers and engineers to provide their expertise on your project. An iMac training suite is also available for various music recording platform training such as Logic and Pro Tools.
2nd Floor is home to Daylight Music & Media Productions (DMP) an award winning creative industries trainer and developer. Within DMP’s creative space at Studio 54 is a dedicated green screen room and video editing suite from where you can record & produce your music video using state of the art industry software & equipment. In addition an iMac training suite on the 3rd floor is where you can enrol for various video production training courses.
1st floor is home to the Academy of Music & Sound (AMS) Head Office – a national network of specialist music colleges including it’s first centre here in Exeter at 8 Coombe Street, plus centres in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Gateshead. AMS offers RSL courses for school leavers, a Music & Sound Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) top-up in in partnership with the University of West London and a Masters Degree in partnership with the London College of Music. AMS also offers one of the UK’s first online ‘fast-track’ music degrees through AMSonline for industry working musicians and music teachers wishing to gain a BA (Hons) Degree in Professional Music. Many renown musicians have come through an AMS training course and/or apprenticeship including Lewis Capaldi, Tristan Evans (The Vamps), Michael Rennie (YungBlud), Callum Beattie (No1 album in Scottish charts), Eddie Thrower (Lower than Atlantis), Josh Kumra (No1 UK single with Wretch 32) and Lawrence Jones (No1 Young Blues Artiste) and many more now carving a career in the music industry.

Ben Green – Studio Engineer
Ben is an experienced recording studio engineer, music producer and teaches music production at the Academy of Music & Sound in Exeter. Ben is bassist with energetic funk-soul band Pattern Pusher who perform at various festivals and recently supported bands such as Supergrass and Wolf Alice
Studio 54 & DMP Owner/Manager Kevin is an experienced music industry manager (Founder of The Academy of Music & Sound), musician and composer. He performs at various festivals (including sell-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival) and performs locally as one half of the The Cellotones duo. Kevin is signed to Universal Music for his library music compositions for acoustic & classical guitar, piano and string orchestra.
Steve (aka Rev Hammer) is Principal at the Academy of Music & Sound (1st Floor at Studio 54) and oversees the organisations full and part-time training courses such as Rockschool Diploma qualifications through to BA (Hons) Music & Sound and MMus. On stage, Steve appears at numerous festivals including Beautiful Days and Bearded Theory.
Producer & Project Engineer Digby has worked with artists ranging from Paul McCartney, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Robert Palmer and The London Symphony Orchestra. His book One, Two, Three, Four: The life and times of a recording studio engineer was recently published.
Producer and Masterclass Engineer Phil has achieved significant success as a songwriter, songwriter and musician having worked with Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) for many years and co-written and recorded many of his worldwide hits. Phil has also worked with The Levellers and Rev Hammer in recent years.
