Our training courses are designed to take you from a beginner to being a competent videographer and editor. Our training courses are a mix of instruction, hands-on exercises and practical guidance. Our trainers are all working professionals and use either Adobe Premier, Da Vinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro X or Avid Media Composer editing software as used by the majority of the top movie and television productions so join us for the only training course in the South West of its kind. All courses are delivered at our DMP Media Suite located at Studio 54 Exeter.

Videographer Fundamentals I Course (FV-I)

This ‘hands on entry level’ course’ is designed to equip you with the basic camera techniques to produce good quality videos including: shoot prep, grip equipment (tripods, gimbals etc), using a digital camera (inc auto and manual focus, aperture, white balance, focal length, iris, shutter speed, ISO etc), lighting (natural & artificial), microphones, essential audio recording, framing, shot types, cutaways and many videographer techniques. You will learn the absolute essentials of getting exposure right and how to set up the basic parameters of your cameras exposure (aperture, shutter speed and sensitivity) and how to use them as the creative tools. All attendees must have a video capable DSLR camera or we can provide a hire camera for £100 for the weekend

Course fee for VF-I is £250 including course support materials with a maximum of 6 people

Course Duration for VF-I is usually over a weekend (2 days starting at 11.00am and finishing at 4.00pm).

Editor Fundamentals I Course (EF-I)

This ‘hands on entry level’ course’ is delivered part-time in our new iMac suite where you will learn how to use standard editing software as a professional. Editor Fundamentals I is an introductory course designed to get a new user up-and-running on the software. In this course, you will develop an understanding of the video editing process and the basic skills to edit a video project from start to finish. This includes understanding the relationship between media and project files, media storage location, the abilities to create the project file; bring in the source video and audio files; edit the sequence, add titles, music, LUT’s and basic effects, and then export the finished sequence.

Course fee for EF-I is £200 including course support materials. Course Duration for EF-I is 4 weeks (approx 3 hours per week – usually as an evening class but also weekend options are possible too).

Videographer Fundamentals II Course (VF-II)

This ‘hands on intermediate level’ course’ is designed to extend your videographer techniques to produce professional level videos including: multi point lighting, microphones & professional audio recording, jump cuts and B-roll, camera movement/motion, location recording in both low light and natural daylight, mastering white balance and colour temperature, green screen recording and many professional videographer techniques, tips and tricks.

Course fee for VF-II is £400 including course support materials with a maximum of 6 people

Course Duration for VF-II is usually over a weekend (2 days starting at 11.00am and finishing at 4.00pm).

Editor Fundamentals II Course (EF-II)

This intermediate level course is for video editors who understand the basics of the editing tools and are ready to move ahead and learn the fundamentals of creating effects. The course is designed to teach you the technical and organisation skills of an assistant editor, and to develop editorial skills with the tools and techniques required to produce a well-edited video. This course empowers novice users to take their editing skills to the next level including green screen editing. Class projects and exercises are hands-on, giving you the opportunity to work on an unscripted project.

Course fee for EF-II at is £300 including course materials and exam fees.

Course Duration for EF-II is 4 weeks (approx 3 hours per week – usually as an evening class but also weekend options are possible too).
